Serrated collar nuts.

PROBLEM.

• If stabilizer links are equipped with traditional lock nuts, the ball pin has to be held in place with an Allen key while fastening the lock nut, which is very time consuming.
• If, in case of traditional lock nuts, the mechanic fails to secure the pin and uses pneumatic equipment, the pin will rotate at high speed, which will cause the dustcover to tear or pop out of the groove. This will lead to premature wear and tear once moisture and dust infiltrate.

SIDEM NXT. SOLUTION.

• The Sidem NXT collar nuts equipped with an advanced locking system under the bottom can easily be rotated by hand, which makes the job a lot easier and quicker.
• With the switch to NXT serrated nuts, all risks associated with incorrect fitting are eliminated.

CHALLENGE: REGULAR COLLAR LOCK NUTS LEAD TO TIME CONSUMING REPLACEMENTS OF STABILIZER LINKS.

Stabilizer links are equipped with traditional collar lock nuts. When you tighten these lock nuts to the correct torque, the threads press together slightly, creating a mechanical lock that keeps them secure. This is the most applied and known locking system on the (after)market.

In order to mount a new stabilizer link, the ball pin had to be hold in place while fastening the lock nut. As the thread lock starts to work at the very beginning of the fastening, it’s quite time consuming to hold the pin while working your wrench to fasten.

With this application, impact wrenches are out of the question as the ball pin rotates along with the nut due to the thread locking system. This is a high risk for damaging the dust cover!

INNOVATION BY SIDEM: SERRATED COLLAR NUTS WHICH LOCK ON THE MOUNTING SURFACE SAVES TIME & EFFORT.

Instead of using collar nuts with a thread locking system, we started testing serrated collar nuts which lock on the mounting surface.

The benefit is clear: the lock only starts to work when the collar meets the counter surface. Before, these act as a simple nut which you can screw on manually, without the help of any keys or wrenches. Only at the final part of fastening, you need your (torque) wrench to finish the job.

The tightness of the lock was tested thoroughly. The required torque to loosen these new serrated collar nuts exceeds the torque of the traditional collar nuts with thread lock. The result is clear: easier & faster installation with an improved, firm lock!
